Songster Weekend 2011
27 Mar 2011
Our Songster weekend this year took place towards the end of March and was led by Songster Leader Angela Holt from Rochdale Citadel Corps. On Saturday afternoon the Songsters shared a time of fun, food and fellowship with Angela who in turn shared some of her story and sang some specially selected vocal solos. Among them were the English Folk Song ‘Linden Lea’ by Vaughan Williams, ‘A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square’ by Sherwin and ‘They Could Not’ by Harris and Cloninger. Angela also taught the Songsters two new songs for use the following day.
On Sunday the Songsters played a prominent role in the meetings. Songs, prayers and readings were led by individuals and the Brigade’s new songs were presented under Angela’s leadership. Angela shared her testimony and sang the words of ‘Amazing Grace’ to the melody of O Waly Waly. Sunday evening’s meeting took the form of a Gowans and Larsson night and congregational songs, vocal solos and Band and Songster contributions all came from the Musicals.
Thanks must go to the Songster locals – Michael, Marie and Ethel and also the Commanding Officers for their constant support of the Brigade, and their enthusiasm and adaptability without which this particular weekend may not have happened.
